I use a technique called scratchboard, primarily as my artistic medium for pet portraits. To give life to the scratchboard I apply a watercolor wash, highlighting the vast colors of the fur or the emotion within the eyes. Pastel is my second preferred medium. It captures the color intensity of the fur and eyes beautifully. I also use acrylics, pen and ink, and charcoal.
All pets are special and have their own unique personalities. I apply this to my decision of what medium to use; as all mediums have their own unique personalities. I will happily suggest which medium I feel will best capture your pet or you can choose.
